|today’s thought| How Old Is Too Old to start a home based business?
My thoughts are that there is no answer. Old is just a word. If anything,
all people eighteen and older with all their faculties who are still productive
members of society absolutely should…
…absolutely should own a home based business! Not many things
I say are universal but this statement actually may be. One of my mentors
says, “there are no blanket policies”. This may be the first time we need
to ask for an official opinion from him about his policy. In any case, old is
a word that continues to be redifined with technology advancements.
So how old is too old to start? This is the wrong question to ask. I have
found that the older a person gets, the better the chance the already
posess the internal “tools” that are necessary to succeed with a home
business.
What I mean is this. Who is more likely to introduce you to more people
who are already earning a quarter million or half a million dollars a year?
Of course, its the 65 or 70 year old [all day long] over and above the
20 year old. In many cases, this is the case even for 30 or 40 year old
people today.
Lets even take it a step further. The more ‘seasoning’ a person has, the
more well respected in society they are I would think. Life experience means
so much when it comes to having the tools for home business success. Think
of your last encounter with someone who has already put in 30 or more years
in business or in a career. It’s different dynamic at play. There is an element
of wisdom at work which only comes as we get older.
The two other major things that many upper middle aged people find themselves
with is more time and ‘investable’ money. I think this is still the case, but I
also think the number of people with this commodity are shrinking. If my
hypothesis is correct, these shrinking numbers of baby boomers with disposable
time and money is just adding fuel to the fire.
Lets tie a bow on this. People much closer to or at the end of their working
years may darn well be the ‘ideal’ candiates for us as home based business
entrepreneurs to connect with and do business with. The reasons are laid out
above.
1) Better connected & a more geographically spread out network of contacts.
2) More well respected in society
3) More disposable Time and Money.
4) Shrinking amounts of time and money is creating Motivation & Urgency.
Holy Cow! Who do you know getting ready to leave the workforce or sell
a business after 30, 40 or even 50 years? Many of these men and woman
have their eyes and ears open to opportunity for the first time in their adult
lives. They are actually waiting for exactly what we have to offer. It would
be really really dumb to ignore their needs.
How old is too old to start a home based business? Don’t test the waters, get
informed and begin your journey as a home based business owner this year. And
when your ready, make it a point to network and connect with as many ‘seasoned’
people as possible. I find it tons of fun and I never learn more than I do from someone
who shares their decades of experience with me.
